I have a pair of 9396PQ switches where one failed.
I now have the replacement. I installed the matching EPLD and NXOS with BIOS upgrade.
I have 7 FEX that will be dual homed to both vPC members.
This is the first switch I have had to replace in almost 3 years of these things being in operation... so this pretty new to me.
Since I cannot configure the FEX in advance should I just copy the configuration to startup, with FEX configs and power it off... Then power it up after the switch has been cabled.

Yes. N9K not support FEX preprovision, so the best way is copy old configuration to startup-config and reload it to see if the configuration is present.

The replacement fex came up with the ports. You have to put the configuration into startup.
