Provide more information and environment, from what IP address source and what is the destination IP.

how is your network topology in terms of reachability from A to B ( A is source and B is destination).

Hello,

Fundamentals,

L2
==
N5K1(MTU 9000)(et1/3)----------(et3/3)(mtu 9000) N7K-SW1 (mtu 1500)(et3/1) ------- (et3/1)(mtu 1500) N7K-SW2 (mtu 1500)3/4--------(et1/4)N5K2(MTU 9000)

1. First I have initoiated the Normal ping and it was succssefull with out any ping drop.
2. I have initiated the ping with the 5000 byte with packet count 50 from N5k1 to NK2 . I was not able to ping because of transperent L2 path (In transit MTU Configured less than 5000)
3. Lets say 50 ping initiated on N7K-SW1 interface 3/1, you will see Jumbo frames increases, On N7K-Sw2 E3/1 Exact 50 input error and 50 Giants packets are seeingin the RX counter.

If Links are L3

Sw1--MTU9216------MTU1500-SW2

Lets say you ping with 1540 Byte, in this case it will add IP-header of 20 Bytes and 8 Bytes of ICMP which is equal to 1568, where you will fragmentation.

If ping 1541 Byte Load, which makes it to 1569, you will packet getting dropped.
