Nexus9000: Regarding timing of output of coldStart trap

YEH
Level 1
Level 1

I am doing SNMP trap testing on a Nexus 9000, but coldstart trap is not sent when rebooting or powering off/on with the reload command.
The following settings are enabled by default on Nexus, but please let me know when the coldStart trap is sent.

snmp-server enable traps generic coldStart

Note that the interface of the route is linked up.

Hello @YEH ,
thanks for the feedback.

Regarding: Please let me know when the coldStart trap is sent.
The snmp 'coldStart' and all other traps will start coming to the server, once the switch is able to ping to the snmp-server IP configured

May I ask which release are you running on your Nexus 9000 ?

In some old releases, ColdStart trap can take a long time to be sent off even if the ping is working to the server.

Let me know if it helps.

Kind Regards,
Antoine

Hello @YEH ,

Hope you are doing well.

Regarding your topic, I'm assuming you are trying to monitor uptime event of the Nexus 9000.

I do know there is an oid call sysuptime (show system uptime), that you can poll with your monitoring tool and it will let you know how much time is the device being on line.
OID shoud look like this: 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3 sysUpTime

Let me know if it helps.

Have a nice day.
Kind Regards,
Antoine

Hello @anpetit

Thank you for your assistance.

We are supposed to send a coldStart trap after the equipment has completed booting, not for monitoring purposes, but we could not receive the Trap on the SNMP server.

I would like to check the status after startup because the port state may be in LISTENNIG state or the routing table may not have converged in STP.

Hello @anpetit

The OS version running is 10.x units.
I will wait longer (5-10 minutes) to see if it takes longer to send the traps.

Hello @YEH ,

Thanks for letting me know.
Do not hesitate to close this thread out if you find it useful.
If you don't receive anything, then a TAC case will be needed to troubleshoot this.

Hello @anpetit

We waited for a while after starting the equipment, but could not see any traps.
We are not in any particular hurry, so we will close it for now. We will contact TAC when we need to investigate.
Thank you for your cooperation.
