Just wondering if anyone else has run across this error?
%MAINBOARD-3-I2CRW_ERROR: Write failure - Device @ 0xE0, offset 0x00000000 on I2C bus 1
The error message decoder was not helpful and TAC hasn't been able to tell us what the issue is. They've already sent us a replacement 2921 and PVDM module but it didn't help.
IOS: c2900-universalk9-mz.SPA.151-4.M5.bin
HARDWARE:
CISCO 2921/K9 (already replaced by TAC)
VWIC3-2MFT-T1/E1
VIC3-4FXS/DID
VIC2-4FXO
PVDM3-64 (already replaced by TAC)
SM-ES3-24-P (IOS: c3560e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE3 - but the error is in the log of the CME not this module)
ISM-SRE-300-K9
PWR-2921-51-POE
I hate to have to replace each component one-at-a-time, as this is not an effective way to troubleshoot and it is disruptive to our users.

Hi ,
This error is very well documented on cisco site
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/system/messages/guide/sm_cn06.html#wp643439
This means that this is a known problem.
When exactly do u get this error like while doing write mem. Why I am asking u because the error points to Write Failue.May be DRAM is the problem.
Does the router boot properly if u power off/ON?

aman,
the link you provided was where we started. However, it doesn't tell you which component is the problem.
router reboots just fine, no errors.
We only get the error on ocassion and haven't been able to isolate what triggers it, so we can't replicate.
I agree, it sounds like a memory issue. But if that were the case, it should have resolved when we replaced the 2921 router, but it didn't.

Hi Dave,
I was suspecting the problem in DRAM.There is a single DIMM slot on the 2921 router motherboard.
When we do the RMA for motherboard , it does not come along with that .
You need to separate RMA for that.
Do u have any other 2921 where in we can try replaing the DRAM and check?

aman,
Doesn't appear to be.
TAC says this is caused by two processes trying to access the bus at the same time. (?) That doesn't make sense. We have several of these deployed [same hardware configuration] and this is the only one that has this problem. And IF this is true, I would think they'd be able to identify which process/service(s) is causing it.
To your DRAM idea - we didn't order additional memory. When we replaced the box last time, we only had to move our PVDM3-64 and ISM (these were the only additional "internal" components) from the old to the new 2921.

Hi Dave,
Did TAC provide any resolution or they just shared their findings which also seems to be incomplete?

No resolution. And since we don't know what's causing it, we haven't been able to reproduce it.

Hi Dave,
Just wondering if you ever figured this one out or not. We have a 1941 router doing the exact same thing. Crashing with the below errors. It crashes multiple time and then comes back up fine randomly. One thing I noticed is we have the same software version as you. Different platform though but I imagine if its a software bug it might be cross platform. It could also be one of the modules we have installed. It complains about the module in Bay 0 before it starts crashing. Bad WIC maybe?
If you have any updates let me know.

I also have the same issue with C3925 router. Exactly the same log
Also says this on the sh env :
SYSTEM WATTAGE
===============
%Motherboard 12V current read ERROR!Power consumption =
NM/SM slot 1 29.9 W
Total System Power consumption is: 29.9 W
Environmental information last updated 00:00:06 ago
Does it need an RMA?
Thanks
