8851 - Can't delete call history

Randall White

On my 8851 phones, I am unable to clear out the call history. I go to Services -> Recents ->All Calls, then select Clear List -> Delete. However, the call list reappears when I go off-hook, or press the Navigation Key - down button. If I power cycle the phone, the list is still there.

Is this expected behavior? I looked through Enterprise and Service Parameters, but didn't see anything that might control call history.

Firmware is sip88xx.10-2-2ES-10, CUCM 10.6

Thanks, Randy

Hi Randall,

Are you following the process listed below.

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/8800-series/english/userguide/P881_BK_CC6C5F2C_00_cisco-ip-phone-8800_series/P881_BK_CC6C5F2C_00_cisco-ip-phone-8811-8841_chapter_0100.html

JB

Yes, I have deleted every call that appears under the "Recent" calls.

The problem is that when you go off hook, the list of calls reappears.

A person can see a list of recent calls made to and from that phone by just going off hook, and scrolling down.

Hi Randy,

Have you tried enabling the "Simplified New Call UI"?

Simplified New Call UI

Controls the user interface for off-hook dialing. When enabled, the user cannot select a number from the recent calls list.

When enabled, this field provides a simplified window for the user to place a call. The user does not see the call history pop-up window that is displayed when the phone is taken off-hook. The pop-up window display is considered useful, so Simplified New Call UI is disabled by default.

Cheers!

Interesting. I tried the "Simplified New Call UI", and it does hide the call history when you lift the handset.

However, the call history still shows when you press the New Call softkey, or the Navigation Button - Down key.

A user was asking how to delete the call history (guilty conscience?), and it looks like this isn't possible.

Thanks, Randy

Hi Randy,

That behavior is not expected and is tracked in this bug/enhancement;

Cheers!

88XX: "Simplified New Call UI" feature inconsistency
CSCut22033
Symptom:
Cisco 88XX phones with "Simplified New Call UI" has been set to enable

Conditions:
"Simplified New Call UI" has been set to enable

Workaround:
Use only the handset to make a new call.

Further Problem Description:
We have enabled "Simplified New Call UI" for this particular phone model, which causes the phone to revert back to its previous dialing behavior, which is to not display the call history when dialing. However, we are seeing come inconsistencies in the behavior.

For this phone model, the Simplified Call UI only appears when a new call is placed by picking up the handset and dialing (No Call History is displayed.). However, If a new call is made by pressing the "New Call" softkey, or when using the transfer or forward all softkey the new dialing UI with the call history appears.

I was able to reproduce this behavior in my lab environment as well. I believe the "Simplified New Call UI" Feature should behave consistently between phone models and consistently between dialing screens.

I could see it works fine for 89XX model of phones.

Thanks Rob, I will follow this bug. I tried upgrading a test phone to sip88xx.11-5-1-18. Now, it doesn't show history when you lift the handset, or press the New Call softkey. It is still there when you press the Navigation Button - Down.

I have the same experience on current-firmware 8811s, and we have no intentions of using Simplified UI.  This is how I cleared the recent placed call history:  Applications > Admin settings > Reset Settings > All Settings > Reset.  The phone configuration is still in CUCM, so it just pulls that back down after the reboot.
