Anyone remember the issues with upgrade in VMware issue? CUCM

I know its not a "supported" upgrade path where you take a server such as 7.1.5 and put into VMware, inplace upgrade to 8.x.  The main reason why this is not supported was the fixed paritition layouts in versions such as CUCM 5 and 6.  Anyone know if this is still an issue with 7.x?    Its harder and harder to find MCS boxes that support the upgrades inplace and the VMware upgrade is fine offline, then DRS it out to its final production enviroment on a UCS chassis.

Thoughts?  Bashings?
