I need to order additional ATA's. I have been using ATA 186's for all of my fax machines, and want to know if I should buy the
newer 187's or should I stick to the 186's, are there any issues or problems. I am running a 7.1.5 call manager and most of my
phone configurations are SCCP, with a few SIP's. Thanks for any opinons.

I would suggest VG202/204XM instead. ATA186 is end of sale so you cannot buy a new one anyway. ATA187s are still available.

This looks like a good way to go, but unfortunatly I work for a school district and money is a concern.

Then your options are ATA187 or used ATA186 from eBay, etc. ATA187 are just fine, very similar to 186.

Hello Maximo,
If it helps you to make the decision, I've been deploying ATA187 in some projects and they work fine so far.

Hi all,
Cisco ATA 187 have some issue. Some workaround work for me. Follow the discussion here: https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2075361
I would recommend you ATA 186, it has a plus: two bridge ethernet port but is EOS.

You can get refurbished/used ATA 186 from Cisco's own Cisco Refurbished.
