Dear All,

Can you please share with me the configuration guide for ATA 187 or the steps to follow to configure the ATA 187.

The scenario is that I have existing voice gateway and call  manager 9.1

Voice gateway is using E1 line for outgoing and incoming calls.

One of the end user has a fax machine who will be using ATA for sending and receiving fax.

Regards,

Malik

Hi,

ATA 187 configuration in CUCM is just like any normal phone configuration only. While adding the new device prompt you would be getting ATA option. ATA 187 would be using SIP protocol by default. Installation procedure for ATA 187 can be found Under  http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cata/187/1_0/english/administration/guide/sip/187adm80/a187_ag2str.html  & Admin guide can be found  http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cata/187/1_0/english/administration/guide/sip/187adm80.html

Couple of things to be remembered while setting up ATA are,

1. Ensure the DHCP enabled VLAN for the ATA connectivity.

2. If DHCP not available you can connect an digital phone to analog port of the ATA and follow the IVR. To access the IVR, go off-hook on the phone connected to Line 1 and press the Set Up button on the front panel of the ATA 187. Default IVR password is CISCO (24726)

3. In some cases, its observed that instead of voice vlan & data access vlan configuration on switch port which is connected to ATA, configure only access vlan (use voice vlan id as the access vlan here)

4. Under phone configuration, Product Specific Configuration Layout > there are few values that you can tweak based on your ITSP and FAX settings. e.g. for addressing one of the fax related issue i had to change the fax rate to 9600bps which is supported by all fax machine where the higher values may not be supprted by near or far end faxes.

5. Once you see the ATA is registered in CUCM and connected fax machine, you can make normal voice calls to external mobiles/landlines to ensure the call routing is working fine.

Any further issue on sending and recieving you have to enable trace logs and voice gateway logs and take help from TAC for further troubleshooting.

Just register the ATA187 on the Callmanager. Then apply the normal partition and calling search space configuration. The ATA187 has some settings which you can change on the CUCM, but normally the default work fine.
