CallManager Express - Adding a Speed Dial to a 6-button phone with button 6 assigned

We have a 7962 phone registered to our CME router, version 7.1 with button 1 and button 6 currently assigned DNs. Buttons 2 - 5 are unassigned currently. We are trying to add a speed dial to button 3 but it doesnt seem to be working. I think its trying to add the speed dial after button 6. Has anyone seen this before or know a work around?

Thanks.

You need CME 8.6 to be able to speed dials in any position. Older versions only allow speed dial after the last DN button.

I found that with CME 7.0, if you create speed dial 1, it will place it after the last DN.  So assuming you had 2 DN's configured, and you wanted a speed dial on say, button 6, you would configure it as speed dial 4.

For example:

ephone  1
device-security-mode none
mac-address aaaa.bbbb.cccc
speed-dial 4 84001 label "Transfer_to_VM"
button  1:10 2:1
