calls work with g711 and some calls dont with g729

Hello,

I´ve been having this issue, we have a reserved BW of 128k with the carrier for calls(512k total) , when we make calls (8 calls)using codec g711 and going through the E&M ports (calls coming from the cloud and passing through router 2800 to PBX avaya) they work well , good quality,etc.. but when we setup an ip trunk  between the cisco 2800 and avaya  only 6 out of 8 calls work well , the 7th and 8th call get poor quality.. QoS is setup, codecs are setup...

the picture is  --> PBX avaya-- Router Cisco-- MPLS- Router Cisco 2800 -- E&M-- PBX avaya   --> 8 calls work well

                              PBX avaya-- Router Cisco-- MPLS- Router Cisco 2800 -- IP trunk-- PBX avaya  ---> only 6 calls work well, 7th and 8th not.

G711 consumes 64k or more per call and g729 around 30k , I guess we could get more calls passing through because they are compressing? ... any suggestions why this can be occurring ?

If it was a BW problem, all calls would equally suffer in quality.

But you say that only the 7th and 8th call do, that points to a device issue.

You have not said if the issue is in both directions or one only.

And have not incuded any trace or trobleshoot here, so it's impossible to say what's causing it.

Anyway, have you considered it can be a problem on the PBX and not with routers or the network ?

This happens in both directions and this could be as yo say the PBX but havent found the root issue. I got some debugs using debug debug voip ccapi inout , do you use any other command than might be helpful?

Are you the end user? If yes, do you work with a cisco partner on this ?

I´m working with a cisco partner but the voice guys are out of the office for now and I´m new with the voice thing so I´ve been reading stuff about it..  which commands could get me the most info possible to troubleshoot this? so I want to get info about why the calls through E&M work well and the calls(6 out of 8) passing through the ip trunk dont.. even though the G729 consumes less BW...

As Paolo mentioned, I think this problem would make a lot more sense if it was all 8 calls that were suffering, as that would probably indicate a bandwidth issue once you add overhead to your 64k calls. If that's not the case then as mentioned by Paolo you should consult your voice guys or partners

Thanks Chris, but I just want to know this .. it´s another scenario...... I have 4 calls going through the E&M ports like this

PBX-->Router-->MPLS-->Router--E&M-- PBX . The QoS hired to the provider is 64k and the BW link is 256k using frame-relay connection... the 4 calls work well in both directions and being in use at the same time .. but they supossed to be around 256k or more , dont they? how come they work well if I only have 64k QoS hired and each call consumes more than 64k??  this is a real scenario ....

The fact you paid for a certain guaranted bandwidth doesn't mean you can't use more.

ok, now in other location I have 8 calls going through the E&M ports like this

PBX-->Router-->MPLS-->Router--H323 trunk-- PBX using codec G729r8 and only 6 calls work well in both directions the other two do not....
