The 8841 cannot be configured using web interface.  To be able to configure the 8841, you'll need the following:

  1. A valid SEPmacaddress.cnf.xml configuration file for the phone
  2. DHCP Option 150;
  3. A TFTP Server;
  4. Firmware of the phone; and
  5. dialplan.xml file

And no, your SIP provider will be able to provide some SIP-related information (like IP address of the SIP server) but will probably not help configuring the phone and won't help troubleshoot problems.

Cisco provide special versions of firmware form 7800 and 8800 phones that allow them to be used more easily with third party SIP call control systems.

The firmware can be downloaded from Cisco if you have the appropriate level of access.

I believe that installing this firmware enables a web server on the phone which can be used to set it up but I have never tried this.

I vaguely recall reading something that stated if you install the third party software you cannot subsequently move back to Cisco firmware. Not sure that this is true but worth checking out further.

I would be interested to hear how you get on with this.
