CER - Use phones External Caller ID

Hi Everyone,

were going into a customer swaping out an old phone system with a new UC deployment. 

Each Phone has an external DID and they were sold by sales ER to do additional alerting in an HA setup.

the customer is already sending updates to PSTN each month of moves of users and DID's to buildings - floor - locations.   Since this process is already in place, I can't really say ER would do / be a better solution.  In any case, they want the PSTN to get the actual DID of the caller's phone when calling 911..  not routing calls back to ER.

Has anyone been able to do this within the ELIN?

CER would allow you to simplify this process by not having to need to send anything every month, CER will track all of the phone moves automatically and you just register the ELINs for each ERL (zone) once, and only need to change them if you add more buildings, etc.

Thanks Chris.  Was pretty much thinking that already however it's so much that people move, but names changes to DID's.

sounds / looks like we will have to create over 500 ELN's to match every single apartment to ensure the DID's is out pulsed to PSTN correctly.

With CER you do not need to worry about any name changes. You partition your buildings based on state or municipal law into ERLs, for sake of discussion lets say floor and quadrants, then you assign one or more ELINs (DIDs) to each ERL, assign switch ports or subnets to the ERLs, and then update the ELIN information with your ALI PSAP provider (the thing you do once a month). This way if phoneA is moved from 2nd floor NW quadrant to 3rd floor SE quadrant CER discovers this via SNMP/CDP and phone will automatically use ERL/ELIN for 3rd floor SE quadrant when someone dials emergency number from this phone. CER will also alert onsite alert via phone call and/or email if desired.

I understand all of this but thanks for taking the time to response Chris.  My question still stands...  How can we present the stations external number mask to PSTN WITHOUT making individual ERL/ELIN

You cannot if the call is routed through CER, unless you do as you state build ERL and ELIN for each phone.
