Changing the caller id when making external calls

Hi All,

I have a customer that has DID numbers mapped to separate extension numbers for instance a second line. So when an external user calls that DID number it rings the second line on the phone. They are asking if it is possible when they are making a call from that second line if it is possible to map the caller id of the DID number so that when they make external calls the persons will see the DID number instead of the main pilot number. Is this possible?

The customer has a E1 setup. I can't see this working but i wanted to confirm it from the experts in the forum :).

As long as the carrier is not over writing the caller ID you send then this is possible. The config will vary based on whether you are using CME or CUCM.

Thank you for the swift response. They are running CUCM 9.1 (2). How will this be configured? I will have to verify with the Telco.

In general for CUCM you would populate the External Phone Number Mask near the bottom of the Directory Number config page and then make sure the Route Pattern and the Route Group assigned to the Route List have the box checked to use the External Phone Number Mask for the calling number. Make sure you are not over writing it at the Voice Gateway or trunk level within CUCM or at the Voice Gateway CLI which are both very possible if you are sending out the same Caller ID for everyone.

Hi,

Its for a few directory numbers. However if the changes you mentioned above are completed would the caller id from other directory numbers be affected? Or would they get the caller id set from the Telco?

You would probably need to make sure the EPNM is correct for everyone. It wouldn't change the caller ID for other phones per se but it would cause the EPNM of each DN to be used, so if that was incorrect it would send out the incorrect ID. You could easily use BAT to change the EPNM on all DN's to be the main number and then just go manually edit the few that you want to be different.
