Cisco 2199 PX Router Issue

aquaium79
Level 1
Level 1

Just wondering if someone could help with an issue we're having at the moment. We are suddenly not able to receive internal calls or make any external calls. We have contacted our line providers and they have said that everything looks good with the line and are blaming an internal fault with the system.

I have done some testing, running the "show ISDN status" command shows the following:

pxrouter>show isdn status
Global ISDN Switchtype = primary-net5

%Q.931 is backhauled to CCM MANAGER 0x0003 on DSL 0. Layer 3 output may not apply

ISDN Serial0/0/0:15 interface
dsl 0, interface ISDN Switchtype = primary-net5
L2 Protocol = Q.921 0x0000 L3 Protocol(s) = CCM MANAGER 0x0003
Layer 1 Status:
DEACTIVATED
Layer 2 Status:
TEI = 0, Ces = 1, SAPI = 0, State = TEI_ASSIGNED
Layer 3 Status:
0 Active Layer 3 Call(s)
Active dsl 0 CCBs = 0
The Free Channel Mask: 0x00000000
Number of L2 Discards = 0, L2 Session ID = 204
Total Allocated ISDN CCBs = 0

Layer 1 Status is showing as deactivated. On the router itself, the "AL" light is showing amber. The strange thing is with the cable unplugged the "AL" light on the router is still showing as amber and if I run the "show ISDN status" command, it's still showing "Layer 1 Status: DEACTIVATED"

I also ran the "show inventory" command and the interface card is shown with details of serial number so I think the card is not at fault.

Below are some pictures of the PX Router and the BT box, could anyone help out and let me know how we can resolve this and if it is in fact in internal issue or an external one with our line providers?

here is a good link for how to configure an PRI E1

https://community.cisco.com/t5/collaboration-voice-and-video/basic-isdn-pri-e1-configuration/ta-p/3149294

Double check your config against it.

The fact, that with a loopback cable you have layer 1 come up is a good thing, however I can not explain to you why when unplugged it does not show active like mine does.

I do see your missing the license accept end user agreement in your config, I typically always do this you might as well.

Also please provide a

show version

show inventory

show controller E1

show isdn service

show ccm-manger

Also please confirm the under of channels that this circuit is configured for.

In my original post I had changed the password letters/numbers however, I have removed the entery all together now.

The config on the system has not been touched or changed. It's been the same it has since it was first set up. How do I confirm number of channels this circuit is configured for?

Below are responses from all the commands you suggested:

Did you truncate your show inventory where are your PVDMs?

You might want to just bounce the router at this point

If that doesn't bring it up I would reach back to carrier for the amount of channels and ask them to confirm that circuit is up by putting your loopback connected to the cable you connect to the 2911 with.

No, I didn't truncate the show inventory. I'm not sure what PVDMs are, sorry.

What do you mean by bounce the router?

We called the carrier again and they said they would be sending out an engineer. Not sure when they will come tho!

Here is a below sample of my routers output. You can see the PVDMS below. PVDMs are needed to terminate any TDM/ analog voice calls.

Sorry, did everything look OK frrom the other commands that I'd run? Nothing unsual, that would cause this problem?

Everything else is looking fine, but if your not seeings you pvdms, it would appear.  By Bounce I mean restart.

Before you do that can you do a

show voice dsp

does it look like this

Just to hark back to some of the earlier comments, if this is a BT (British Telecom) ISDN-30e then it will be an E1 interface, not T1.

Regarding the actual issue, Layer 1 down is almost always a carrier fault.  I say almost because occasionally it is a hardware fault in the router or interface, but maybe 95 out of 100 are the carrier.

By "bouncing" the poster means power cycling the router.  Make sure configuration is saved, power it off for a minute or so then power back up.

Yeah I am using T1 incorrectly and I am meaning E1. Thank you for clearing that up Tony. Yeah I do agree with you here, mostly these kind of issues are the carriers and having one of them put a loopback on it will help.

Tthe lack of PVDM showing up in a show inventory is alarming however.

I will run the "show inventory" command again incase I've missed something. I'll also run the "show voice DSP" command and report back here. It'll probably be Monday now, unless I get some time to sit down at the weekend to look at it.

Once again, thanks for all the help and advice.

If pvdms are there it is probably telco issue.

OK, so looks like the pvdms were in the show inventory command, not sure why or how I managed to miss it. Below is the result from the command.

Just out of interest, I tried inserting the T1 Loopback cable in to the back of the white BT box (pictured in my original post). I replaced it in the same port as the pink cable that came from the PX router. When I did that the "CUST" light was still amber, could it be an issue with the BT box or would the T1 Loopback cable have no affect when inserted in to the BT box?
