I have got a Cisco 7940. I want to use it with SIP account. Can you help me to insert the SIP firmware?

You can delete it in CUCM (since it's currently a skinny phone) and readd it as a sip phone.  After that, you will likely have to do a factory reset on the phone.  You do that by power cycling it and holding down the # key.  Wait for the lights to cycle on the Headset, Mute and Speaker buttons.  Once the lights are cycling, press buttons 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, *, 0, # in that order.  The phone will reset it's config, contact the DHCP server and start to download the firmware image from CUCM.

I do not have call manager...I have only the phone....

No help for me?

Hi

I recently bought a brand new 7940G phone off ebay from a registered Cisco person who also supplied me the SIP firmware files so I can convert the phone to SIP because I am donating it to a charity and setting up a new network for them and running 3CX phone.  From all the things I read it should be possible.  This should help you Stefano but I still have not completed it to a working state so hope someone else can help too.

  • I unzipped the firmware files (which have to be downloaded by someone who has a contract with Cisco - fair enough)
  • I  setup a DHCP Server on my Windows Small Business Server Essentials 2011 server and set the option to 66 for the TFTP server.
  • Following 3CXPhone advice I used Pumpkin TFTP Server and installed this on my laptop.
  • I rebooted the phone and it loaded the first two files OK.  These were

OS79XX.TXT and

SEPMacaddress.cnf.xml

Here is the log file from Pumpkin

The phone said "Loading software" (from memory)

On the phone I got an error that said something along the lines of "TFTP Size error P003-07-5-00" (from memory)

Then it just continued looping as shown above.

Can anyone please help me by suggesting what I can try next.  I have burnt the midnight oil on this for the last week or so and really do not want to give up and buy dearer phones.  Interestingly I bought a Yealink SIP phone and it worked within one minute on the 3CXPhone IP PBX which is running on the Small Business Server.

Maybe I should have bought the 7940 already changed to SIP!
