Hello,
A customer recently purchased a Cisco CP-7841-3PW-NA-K9 running 12.0.1 and they are trying to run it on our Cisco Broadworks Application. We only have certified and provide 11.1.2 currently on our network. When the customer tries to plug the phone in they are getting Hardware/Software Incompatability message when it tries to download firmware.
Question, should a Cisco CP-7841-3PW-NA-K9 running 12.0.1 be able to downgrade to 11.1.2? Or if the phone cannot downgrade, can it stop looking for 11.1.2 on our network and just run with 12.0.1? I do not see any release notes on Cisco's website for 12.0.1.
Thanks,
Dave

Hi,
Depending on the hardware VID, you wont be able to downgrade to 11.1.2. If the VID is 20 and above you wont be able to. There were some new components introduced and the minimum firmware required is 11.3.3.

If the phone cannot downgrade, can/will it stop looking for 11.1.2 on our network and just run with 12.0.1? Also, do you have a link to the release notes for 12.0.1? Thank you for your help.

The phone will download an upgrade rule from the provisioning server and will keep trying to upgrade forever and you will see an "upgrade failed" notification on the phone screen, but the phone itself will keep running on 12.0.1.
