Just wondering why cisco put in an intercom feature in the CCM when you can not even share the intercom lines. It is like they gave users just a small portion of an intercom feature where is the group intercom.

What you're referring to is not intecom, that's paging, and that's a whole different feature.
Intercom is 1:1
Paging is 1:many
Currently paging is not implemented in CUCM.

I have seen it called intercom or paging. Our old system called it group intercom.
The new RLS of CCM would work if Cisco gave it a little more thought and allowed multiple intercom appearances on phones. Why would a user only want to intercom one other person. Just dial there extesion.

The Cisco intercom feature provides useful features for boss-secretary users that standard lines do not offer.
The intercom target auto-answers and allows the calling party to be heard by the called party but does not allow the called party to be heard by the calling party until authorised.
Group paging is different but should really be included in CUCM by now (at least a basic version).

Just for awareness: none of the internal product managers monitor this forum. We can only answer questions about the current product functionality. Any product enhancement requests need to be routed through your local Cisco Account Manager.

There are several technical hurdles involved in CUCM-based one-to-many communications; it is not just "a little more thought". None of these are insurmountable; however, there are already fully-functional products in the partner ecosystem (e.g. SingleWire Informacast, SynApps SA-Announce) that provide this functionality quite well. The PM has to choose what to accomplish in each release and paging has been - and likely will continue to be - very near the bottom of the list.

Manager and assistant is the most common example. Dialing an extension does not auto-answer on speaker immediately, provide whisper intercom, or start with the microphone muted.
