Cisco IP Communicator doesn't launch

Two weels ago my Cisco IP Communicator soft phone would not launch.  I keep getting an error stating the audio tuning wizard stopped working.  I have uninstalled and re-installed it several times.  I also restored it to a restore point two weeks prior to the start of the issues.  Nothing seems to work.  Any ideas?

What version of Windows are you running? - On Windows 7 I have to use "Run as Administrator" to get CIPC to run reliably.

Thank you for the response.   I am using Windows 7 and run as an administrator but to no avail.

Make sure you have the headset plugged into your computer before launching the cipc client.

Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPhone App

Yes my headset is plugged in and all troubleshooting efforts have been taken.  It literally worked one day and not the next and no changes were made.  My IT department has suggested re-imaging my computer but that sounds like a cop out to me.  I'm looking for anything anyone has that is beyond any troubleshooting efforts from the manual.

Does anyone have an answer

you should try on the system when disable all firewalls...

i faced same issue and reinstalled it..it is working..!

Hi,

You may try to completely delete all app settings, not only uninstalling CIPC, but, using a reg cleaner (ccleaner ••J)and also manually deleting any folders created by CIPC "C:\Program Files" make sure that the folder Cisco or Cisco Systems does not contain any CIPC folder/files.

After that, try a completely fresh installation running the APP as administrator; ask your IT department for that.

Thank you Sharma but the issue still persists.  I uninstalled everything, removed all CIPC file folders, installed as an admin and disabled all firewalls and still get the same error message.

As soon as I launch I get an error stating the Audio Tuning wizard is either missing or not connected. It then launches a troubleshooter which ends with an error message titled "Audio Tuning Wizard has stopped working"

My IT Dept is insisting I re-image my computer but I can't imagine we need that drastic a fix.  Is there something in the registry I can fix to correct this issue?

Hi Armando,

Try unistalling the CIPC, delete the folder remained, the install another version. Maybe is stuck with a corrupted file somewhere.

Regards

I had the same issue.  Uninstalling and reinstalling did not help.  Discovered that uninstalling didn't remove all files. From:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cipc/2_1/english/administration/guide/admin2_1/cag21ts.pdf

Uninstall Does Not Remove All Files
Problem The user reports that the uninstall does not remove all files.
Solution The uninstall program does not remove files that are added or modified during runtime; you need to manually delete these files:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Cisco\Communicator
Note that the Application Data folder is hidden.

After I'd uninstalled  I checked to see if the directory mentioned in the user guide I just linked to was actually there.  I'm using Windows 7, so the directory for me is actually:

c:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Cisco\Communicator

I found a lot of files that were dated a month or two ago, so I simply deleted the directory, reinstalled, and then re-ran the audio tuning wizard.  Voila!  C'est la fix!
