Cisco IP Communicator Network Settings Grayed Out

I installed v8.6.3 of Cisco IP Communicator to solve an issue.  But the key part of my solution was

going to be that users could change the Device Name on demand.  So I was disappointed to fine

that they after installing on my Windows 7 machine and R-Click/Properties/Network...everything

was grayed out.  I thought well maybe it has to be run as administrator to not be grayed out.  Nope

that fails as well.  What is going on?

Hi,

You need to open CICP with a Windows Administrator account.

Try this:

1. Right click on CIPC

2. Open as administrator

That should do the trick!

This is a common windows permisson problem...

Run as Administrator did finally work.  But there is a key gotcha.  Simply closing communicator does not really stop it from running.  Process communicatork9.exe is still running.  So opened Task Manager and forced that proc to end.  THEN RUn as Administrator allowed me to change the network settings.

I found that bit in this thread for referece: https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2042976

THis sorted it. Thanks!

This 100% worked for me . Thanks .

Thanks mmedwid.  This did the trick.

Thanks. This fixed it.

Thanks! Had seen quite lot of answers recommending only "Run as Administrator". But everyone missed the important ingredient - First killing it from Task Manager & then Run as administrator.

I I have Cisco IP Communicator 8.6.6.1, already perform all the mentioned setup but still same.

Can anyone assist me on this.

TQ

If you have fully exited the CIPC application by either right-clicking and selecting "Exit" from the menu, or by killing the application via Task Manager, and then when launching right-clicking and selecting "Run As Administrator" there is no reason for the Network tab to be grayed out.

FYI: If you will be accessing the Network tab a lot you can edit the shortcut to add "Run As Administrator" as a default.
