Dear All,

I have a quick question.

Could someone clarify me that why do cisco use TFTP during phone registration? Why not FTP or SFTP?

Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Syed

TFTP relies on UDP and therefore requires less overhead than FTP or SFTP.  It's a simple file transfer method that is standard for most devices that boot from a network connection.

Are you having any particular problems or was it just a question?

Hi Robert,

It is just a question. Thank you for your quick answer.

Could you elaborate on this, please? or share a reference link.

Check out the following sections in SRND:

Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP)

Latest firmware phones uses http as well.

That is correct, but it still uses the TFTP "service" for it. So, essentially the "TFTP service" on CUCM node handled both.
