I don't believe cisco's Prime UC apps can do this, so I'm wondering if anyone is aware of any intelligent 3rd party monitoring system out there for Cisco Unified Communications Manager. I'm looking for a full fledge monitoring application for Cisco UC and I want to be able to detect dropped PSTN calls in the system to be a little more proactive than waiting for users to report it. I'm wondering if anything like this is out there.

Look at the Prime Collaboration assurance data sheet for version 11:

Apart from that, the most reliable tool I have used till now for CUCM is RTMT. You can run it during the production hours or have it running on a server. But it will cover CUCM only. If you are looking beyond, there are various tools Solar winds, Spectrum etc. I have used some but find RTMT the most helpful.

Edit: I meant to say if you are looking for end to end monitoring of call path along the network and you dont have any existing network monitoring tool then you need to look beyond. Didn't meant to say RTMT will not monitor CUC or IM&P

Hi,
I know that solarwinds is having a good tool for UC monitoring and proactive alerting. However, I suggest to use RTMT as much as possible and configure it for alerting which I am doing. RTMT can monitor any process/counter/service within UC environment.
RTMT is capable of monitoring CUCM, CUC, and IMP.

RTMT and syslog is what I prefer too. heaps cheaper that Prime as well!!

Parsec’s MARS CUCM Wall Board integrates with Cisco CUCM.
The application does not require a contact center UCCX or UCCE.
If calls are queued at CUCM’s Hunt Pilot/Hunt List and routed to agent/s based on configured routing logic then MARS CUCM Wallboard displays the Hunt Pilot/Hunt List statistics and Agent Phone status (Idle/Busy)
MARS CUCM Wall Board monitors the enterprise PRI line/s also and provide online status provided the gateway is configured as MGCP.
