Does DRS backup Firmware Files

Does the Cisco DRS backup firmware cop files which were installed seprately and not when the server was originally built.

I have a CUCM 10.5.2 cluster and have installed some new firmwares for some phone models and some other firmwares which are in version 11.

If I am rebuilding my cluster in a new server hardware and restoring from backup, will I have to reinstall the firmwares after the server is rebuilt and before restore?

Do I have to update the Device Defaults again after the server rebuild and restore?

Thanks in advance,

Libin Benedict

Louis,

TFTP files are back up this is why the DRS database grows and it is recommended best practice to clear off unused firmware to scale down this DRS size.

The restore should contain the database which would contain the correct firmware image, I say should because would want to double confirm that one myself, when I plan for an upgrade I typically look at the firmware the upgrade would push out and then upgrade my phones prior to the cucm upgrade.

Why don't you upgrade you server at the same time as moving it via a migration with PCD? Or just do a cold migration with vmotion?

Hi Gregory,

Thanks for your response.

Since the firmwares are retained, I hope the Device Defaults are retained too during restore. Correct?

As for PCD migration, we are now planning to get rid of the existing server UCS C210M2 which is EoL and moving to BE7H. Upgrade will take place at a later date. Besides, I am yet to look at the PCD migration.

If it was me I would be migration and moving to the new hardware at the same time.

Hi,

It turns out that DRS does not backup the firmwares which were installed separately.

I had to install those firmwares (.cop.sgn files) agian after rebuilding the server and restoring the backup.

I had read about this related to locales that they need to reinstalled after a rebuild. But nowhere in Cisco documentation I have seen that the firmwares should be re-installed.

Interesting I wonder if there is a difference base on installation of .cop versus manually uploading because I don't think I have ran into this problem before. Why take the time to back them up in the drs if they are not restored.
