Hi - we are migrating a customer 3 node (1x PUB / 2 X SUB) cluster from 7.1.3.3290000 running on their existing MCS-7845s to
8.5.1.1190021 on their new C210-M2s. As we want to avoid carrying out all migration / upgrade tasks on the day of the cutover we are following the process below:
1 Build and license 8.5.1.1190021 3 node cluster on CS210-M2 (same hostname / ip settings / usernames and pwds)
2 Build a 7.1.3.3290000 PUB on a spare MCS
3 DRS backup of existing customer cluster
4 DRS restore of this backup to spare MCS running 7.1.3.3290000
5 CUCM upgrade and license of PUB on spare MCS to 8.5.1.1190021
6 DRS backup of upgraded MCS
7 DRS restore to 8.5.1.1190021 on UCS cluster.
At this final step of the DRS restore, we can select the TAR through the restore wizard, select CDR / CCM and CUCM but are then recieving the following error when trying to do the DRS restore:
ERROR: Unable to restore the data - Cannot find the deployment type, Restore Completed... I thought this may be due to the backup from the spare MCS being only a single server (PUB) and we are trying to restore to an active cluster, but I have tried the restore with the 2 SUBs on UCS powered down - but still receive the same error. Any help appreciated. Thanks Brian | ![]() |

Hi Brian,
Before you restore Cisco Unified Communications Manager, ensure that the hostname, IP address,
version, and deployment type of the restore matches the hostname, IP address, version, and deployment
type of the backup file that you want to restore.
Is everything taken care of ?
Hope it helps,
Anand

Thanks for the response Anand - yes all hostname, IP, versions are correct. The "deployment type" I am presuming means the same number of CUCM nodes in the cluster? If so this is the same also.
I have tested a little further and of the three components: CAR_CDR, CCM and UCM that are available for selection, I can restore the UCM element ok, but when selecting CAR_CDR or CCM I receive the message:
ERROR: Unable to restore the data - Cannot find the deployment type, Restore Completed...
I have ensured CDR is enabled and CAR and all other services are started ok.
From the DRS Restore wizard, the detail related to each of these components are as follows:
CDR_CAR PUB CAR
CCM PUB REPORTER
CCM PUB CEF
CCM PUB CCMDB
CCM PUB CCMPREFS
CCM PUB TFTP
CCM PUB SYSLOGAGT
CCM PUB CDPAGT
CCM PUB TCT
CCM PUB BAT
UCM PUB PLATFORM
UCM PUB CLM
UCM PUB REPORTER
UCM PUB CDPAGT
UCM PUB SYSLOGAGT
UCM PUB CCMDB
UCM PUB TFTP
UCM PUB CCMPREFS
UCM PUB TCT
UCM PUB CEF
UCM PUB MOH
UCM PUB BAT
UCM PUB ANN
It looks as if all of the CCM components are contained with the UCM feature; I dont suppose anyone knows if the CCM feature is required for restores, or if there is a document that details this?
Thanks again
Brian

Hi - Just as an update to this: TAC have advised that the CCM components relate to pre 8.x backups, therefore, to do a full restore to our new 8.5.1 cluster, we select the CAR_CDR and UCM components only - this looks to have worked fine.
Another point of interest is that after the restore, we recieve errors relating to CM components not matching across all nodes. On closer inspection these components are related to HP management agents (ilo / snmp / oncfg ). It looks as if the DRS restore from our MCS-7845-H1 to our UCS-C210 / ESXi 5.0 has taken across some of these components on to the new PUB. TAC have advised that this will not affect any CUCM functionality and is cosmetic only, unfortunately, I cant see a way of removing these components and it may be appear confusing when diagnosing future cluster issues.
Cheers
Brian
