Hi,

MGCP - Centralised configuration of translation etc on the CUCM.

When an MGCP gateway fall back in to SRST it has to invoke a fallback protocol usually H323. You therefore need to configure

ccm fallback and a minimul dial peers etc for SRST.

H323 - You need to configure the dial peers etc locally on the router. Uses its defaault protocol of H323 for SRST.

You need to make a decision.

More config on CUCM  (MGCP)

or More config work on the gateway H323.

MGCP gateway shoew as registered on CUCM due the protocol being client/server.

H323 gateways show as unknown status as this is a PEER to PEER protocol

If you are using partial E1 trunks (IE less than 30 B-Channels on the trunk) to the pstn etc is better practise to use H323

Hi,

There is a document that compares MGCP and H.323 Voice Gateway Protocol

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk1077/technologies_tech_note09186a00806fedbe.shtml

MGCP is easier to configure but has limitations because CCM takes all decisions and only works on DNIS.

H323 requires more configuration because of dial-peers but work with ANI, DNIS and redirect number. You have a lot more control.
