Hi,
We currently have an H323 voice gateway which is used to connect to a TMR (radio) system through E&M ports.
We are planning to convert this H323 gateway to SIP since we are planning to upgrade the gateway to the latest IOS where H323 is not supported.
I hope the setup should work the same way as earlier as it is just the protocol change from H323 to SIP.
From your expertise, can you please advise whether there is any problem in converting gateway to SIP which will have an impact on sending/receiving the calls to the radio system via E&M ports?
Current: CUCM <--H323 (voip dial-peer)--> Gateway (H323) <--E&M (POTS dial-peer)--> Radio System
Target: CUCM <--SIP Trunk (voip dial-peer)--> Gateway (SIP) <--E&M (POTS dial-peer)--> Radio System
Thanks in advance,
Libin Benedict

This should work but you might need MTP which can be enabled on the SIP trunk.

Very likely there will be no problem with this. Neither H.323 nor SIP has any know about what is on the other side of the connection from the gateway perspective, so from that viewpoint it would just be a change on the path between CM and the gateway. The conversion is very straightforward, it is just a matter of changing the protocol on the dial peers to and from CM in the gateway and creating a SIP trunk in CM that you add to the same RG as the H.323 gateway.

Thank you for the responses, Nithin and Roger.
