How can I change the default phone "term42.default.loads" file in CUCM 12.5?

Hello,

We recently installed a CUCM 12.5 server and we are trying to register Cisco 7942 phones to this server. The 7942 phones currently have SCCP firmware. When a cisco 7942 phone is factory reset it talks to the CUCM/TFTP server and grabs the term42.default.loads file and upgrades/changes from SCCP to SIP, since the term42.default.loads file has SIP firmware files listed. We would like to change the term42.default.loads so that it lists SCCP firmware files instead of SIP files, so that when a phone is factory reset it get the 7942 SCCP firmware from the TFTP server and not SIP.

How can I do that? Please advise or share your thoughts.

Does auto registration enabled on CUCM, Check protocol mentioned. if its sip change to sccp.

You can specifically mention the firmware on phone page. 

Default phone firmware setting can be done from below tab.

Thanks for your response. I have confirmed that the "Auto Registration phone protocol" is set to SCCP.

I know that I can configure a phone load name under phone configuration, but it is not working with Cisco 7942 phones. It works for Cisco 7975 phones.

Also, when a phone is factory reset it takes the term42.defualt.loads which lists all the SIP firmware files. I would like to change the term42.default.loads so that it lists SCCP firmware file names instead of SIP.

Hey Shivani,

I was looking at a similar issue, and I think this is the fix for your env as well.

The Phone when factory reset will request the term42.default.loads .This file contains a list of archive image files that will be requested by the Phone:

If you open that file on notepad you'll see it requests the following files , notice the jar42sip and cvm42sip file, which I think makes it a sip FW.

jar42sip.9-4-2ES22.sbn
cnu42.9-4-2ES22.sbn
apps42.9-4-2ES22.sbn
dsp42.9-4-2ES22.sbn
cvm42sip.9-4-2ES22.sbn

However if you download the FW from CCO for a SCCP firmware , you get the following this time with the jar42sccp and cvm42sccp file:

jar42sccp.9-4-2ES22.sbn
cnu42.9-4-2ES22.sbn
apps42.9-4-2ES22.sbn
dsp42.9-4-2ES22.sbn
cvm42sccp.9-4-2ES22.sbn

So the solution here would be to replace the term42.default.loads file with the one you get from the SCCP Firmware or to be on a safer side upload all of the files we get from the FW zip file and restart TFTP service.
