I am using SIP phones in my setup. What is the significance of SIP route patterns? How does it differ from normal route patterns?

The fact you use SIP phones is completely irrelevant
A SIP RP routes the domain or IP you configure in it, it will only match the RHS of the URI you dial, besides that, you also configure a partition and a SIP trunk or RGL, have you looked at it in your server?? Or in the CUCM documentation???

Jaime is correct +5. You would normally not define SIP pattern unless you are doing video integration or CWMS where these are being used.

Chris, when you say "video integration", I assume you mean VCS?
