IP phones are not upgrading from the correct TFTP server and failing

I have a CUCM 7.x across a wan. The phones are getting DHCP from the router and option 150 is pointed back to the CUCM.  I can ping and reach CUCM from anywhere on the network however the phones seem to be trying access a different TFTP server on the same subnet as the phones and it always fails.

If you try and statically assign the address of your TFTP servers on one of the phones does it work successfully?

I have plugged in the tftp and still no upgrade.  The phones try to call on the nearest ip address including it's own IP.

Elijah,

Can you share the DHCP config and name the pub and sub ips?

Does it happening for all of the phones or a specific phone models?

Seems like an issue where a device pack is not installed properly in all of the nodes.

I apologized for the late reply.  I assigned the static IP to the TFTP server and still nothing happened. I then went to check the firmware and hardware version on the phone and found that I needed to upgrade to 8.5.2 before going any higher.  So I installed the firmware and was able to upgrade.  Thank you guys so much for your help.  It was a firmware upgrade mismatch.

Please do the following checks.

  1. From cucm CLI ping The router where DHCP scope is created.
  2. Validate the DHCP configs on router specially default gateway .
  3. IF possible go to Cisco Unified Serviceability  >  Tools  > Control Center - Feature Services  >  Select Publisher IP Address  > Cisco Tftp (*restart this one?)

Hi,

Please check the following:

1. Make sure the option 150 in the DHCP configuration on the router is correct (Revalidate) :). Probably share it with us.

2. Check on the phones if you have defined alternate TFTP.

3. Delete the phone's configuration and then check.

4. If none of the above work, take wireshark captures from the phone and check the offer.

The offer should look something like:

234    71.294381    10.102.206.3    10.102.206.35    CS0    DHCP    426    DHCP Offer    - Transaction ID 0x1a487065

Option: (150) TFTP Server Address

Length: 8

TFTP Server Address: 10.106.117.132
