If you have a DID feature from an ISP, can you only use a DID based voice interface card?

Thanks in advance again :)

Yes, you can do that.

You need to configure did signal on that particular voice port.

Thanks Aman. I had seen that link.

Can DID devices also be used for connecting Cisco phones to routers?

Hi John,

DID is a basically a service which is offered by TELCO and same needs to be supported on Voice cards.

on these cards , you have voice ports and not ethernet ports.

Cisco IP phones need to be  connected to switch.

regds,

That's correct.

And then  I guess configure vic-2did in router to receive did calls from ISP. Correct?

Thanks for your reply Chintan.

And this would apply to a small business using Cisco phones and routers if they wanted to use this method too then?

And 1 port could be for fax and the other for voice or both could be used for voice then

ports can be used as FXS or DID,

if you are planning to use them as FXS then you can attach fax or telephone or both.

regards

Chintan

Thanks Chintan,

No, I was considering Cisco phones attached to routers.
