Hi guys,
I have CUCM 9.1.2 and a 2901 MGCP gateway with a VWIC3-1MFT-T1E1-E1 card and am trying to integrate this with a Seimens PBX.
I have been following this guide to help with the config
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/solutions/collateral/ns340/ns414/ns728/ns784/818160.pdf
Originally this guide says to leave the framing as CRC but the layer 1 of ISDN status was showing shutdown and the show controller was showing "Transmitter is sending TS16 LOMF Alarm. Receiver has loss of multi-frame in TS16". I changed the E1 controller to use NO-CRC which brought the interface up:
Seimens-QSIG#sho isdn status
Global ISDN Switchtype = primary-qsig
%Q.931 is backhauled to CCM MANAGER 0x0003 on DSL 0. Layer 3 output may not apply
ISDN Serial0/0/0:15 interface
dsl 0, interface ISDN Switchtype = primary-qsig
**** Slave side configuration ****
L2 Protocol = Q.921 0x0000 L3 Protocol(s) = CCM MANAGER 0x0003
Layer 1 Status:
ACTIVE
Layer 2 Status:
TEI = 0, Ces = 1, SAPI = 0, State = TEI_ASSIGNED
Layer 3 Status:
0 Active Layer 3 Call(s)
Active dsl 0 CCBs = 0
The Free Channel Mask: 0xFFFF7FFF
Number of L2 Discards = 0, L2 Session ID = 12
Total Allocated ISDN CCBs = 0
However, when I do a Q931 debug, all I see is "BAD FRAME" constantly on the screen.
Seimens-QSIG# debug isdn q931
debug isdn q931 is ON.
Seimens-QSIG#BAD FRAME()BAD FRAME()BAD FRAME()BAD FRAME()BAD FRAME()BAD FRAME()BAD FRAME()BAD FRAME
I've truncated the output above, there are hundreds of "BAD FRAME" errors within a few seconds of turning on debug.
I did a bit of searching which suggested I should set the gateway as the network side so I entered isdn protocol-emulate network, this changed the ISDN status output, but still get the same BAD FRAME errors:
Seimens-QSIG#sho isdn status
Global ISDN Switchtype = primary-qsig
%Q.931 is backhauled to CCM MANAGER 0x0003 on DSL 0. Layer 3 output may not apply
ISDN Serial0/0/0:15 interface
******* Network side configuration *******
dsl 0, interface ISDN Switchtype = primary-qsig
**** Master side configuration ****
L2 Protocol = Q.921 0x0000 L3 Protocol(s) = CCM MANAGER 0x0003
Layer 1 Status:
ACTIVE
Layer 2 Status:
TEI = 0, Ces = 1, SAPI = 0, State = TEI_ASSIGNED
TEI = 26, Ces = 255, SAPI = 3, State = TEI_ASSIGNED
Layer 3 Status:
NLCB:Calls are Held because of T309= 90.000 seconds
0 Active Layer 3 Call(s)
Active dsl 0 CCBs = 0
The Free Channel Mask: 0xFFFF7FFF
Number of L2 Discards = 0, L2 Session ID = 19
Total Allocated ISDN CCBs = 0
I don't really know much about the Seimens side and am working with a third party engineer for that. Is there anything else I can check on the Cisco side, or anything I should specifically ask the Seimens engineer to set / check? MGCP config below:

hi
first try to identify which side must provide the clock.
can you provide outputs from
show controllers e1
debug isdn q931 is not usefull here, instead you should enable debug isdn q921.
coaxial cables connected to balun can be crossed , did you try to change tx by rx?

As you can see from the optput, there are 3845 Line code violation
Total Data (last 24 hours)
3845 Line Code Violations, 16 Path Code Violations,
11 Slip Secs, 0 Fr Loss Secs, 2 Line Err Secs, 0 Degraded Mins,
53 Errored Secs, 1 Bursty Err Secs, 0 Severely Err Secs, 50 Unavail Secs
Please make sure the line coding is same on both Cisco and Siemens sides.
Also i would suggest to replace the cable..

Hi Sean,
You have to be on Slave side while Seimens to be Master/Network.
Ask the Siemens Engr. to check for Time Slots Mapping.
Lastly, take the clock from Siemens EPABX.So, on the your E1 contoller change clock source to LINE.
alos, configure network-clock-select 1 E1 0/0/0 on router

Hi Sean,
Did u try to check the pin out of cables ?
Are us using 1,2 and 4,5 pairs.?
regds,
aman
12-17-2013 06:16 AM
Hi Aman,
I'm not sure. The connection to the Seimens is presented as a BNC and is going to a balon like this one
I am then using a plan Cat5E cable to connect to the E1 port on the router. Do I need to use a different cable for this?
Thanks
Sean
12-17-2013 06:44 AM
Hi Sean,
what is the make of this BALUN?
can be searched on net or vendor can confirm the pin details?
if any manual, that can also help.
regds,
aman

Thanks guys. Unfortunately, I'm not onsite at the moment so can't check the make of the balun or reverse the coax cables. I will try this next time I am there. In the meantime, the outputs from the router are below:
debug isdn q921 is ON.
