Does anybody know how to factory reset 7970G ?
I have upgraded CUCM to 8.6 and specifically 2 phones can not upgrade each softwares before booting.
I am supposing there is a kind of bios on these phones that are not working fine.
Thanks
Rosa

In order to factory reset a Cisco 7941/7942/7961/7962/7970/7971/7975 hardphone (third generation) use the following sequence:
Please note that this process might take up to 10 minutes for the phone to fully recover. Make sure that option 150 is present in the network plug that is being used.
Step 1 Unplug the power cable from the phone and then plug it back in.The phone begins its power up cycle.
Step 2 While the phone is powering up, and before the Speaker button flashes on and off, press and hold #.
Continue to hold # until each line button flashes on and off in sequence in amber/orange.
Step 3a Release # and press 123456789*0# for soft reset (deletes key files on the phone including /etc/init.tab - reboots - phone recovers default loads file from TFTP server).
or
Step 3b Release # and press 3491672850*# for total hard reset (A total hard reset formats /flash0 blowing away everything except CNU. All settings and personalization of the phone is removed).
You can press a key twice in a row, but if you press the keys out of sequence, the factory reset will not take place.
After you press these keys, the line buttons on the phone flash red and the phone goes through the factory reset process. This process can take several minutes.
Do not power down the phone until it completes the factory reset process and the main screen appears.

Unfortunately factory reset was not able to make phones register.
I am trying to connect a console to 7970 phone, but phone has a female RJ11 and traditional Cisco console cable has a male RJ45.
Any idea ?

Rosa

Does anybody know how to factory reset 7970G ?
1. Power down the phone.
2. Hold the # key.
3. Still holding down the "#" key, power up the phone.
4. For a 7970G, it takes awhile before the contact buttons start to light up.
5. Keep holding the "#" down, wait until the contact buttons (those eight flashing buttons on the upper right-hand side) lights up individually) before you hit the "123456789*0#".
This should factory-reset a 7970.

What firmware are you trying to load?
Remember that there is an upgrade path with the 79XX Phone:
Note For all SCCP firmware upgrades from firmware release versions earlier than 8.3(3) to version 8.5(2)SR1 or greater, you must first upgrade your firmware to version 8.5(2). Once you have upgraded to version 8.5(2), you can upgrade your IP Phone to version 9.1(1)SR1 or later.
Note This section applies to the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7975G, 7971G-GE, 7970G, 7965G, 7962G, 7961G-GE, 7961G, 7945G, 7942G, 7941G-GE, 7941G, 7931G, 7911G, and 7906G.

Jorge I have many 7970G phones.
Only one can not register.
I guess it is a firmware problem.
I would like to connect a console in order to verify if all software is fine, as sugested at
Cisco IP Phone 7970 Administration Guide for Cisco CallManager

Still a problem with the firmware upgrade path, you may try to load 8.5(2) first and see if that makes any difference.

Thanks but, System version: 8.6.2.20000-2 Unrestricted is the curent version.
Even though, there are five more 7970G ip phones working fine.
I guess there is a specific firmware repair to be done and I do not know how to do it.

8.5.2 is phone fimware version, not CUCM software.

Paolo
8.6.2.20000-2 is still phone firmware ?
How can I repair phone firmware?
Copying from other phone firmware ?
Thanks Rosa

Hi Rosa,
The feature which u are looking for is called Peer Firmware sharing used for upgrading IP phones at remote sites, thereby reducing the load on WAN link.
U need to enable PFS in phone where the firmware is to be upgraded and point to IP address for TFTP to working 7970 phone.
You can try this option else raise the RMA for phone.
