Hello All,
We are running Call Manager 8.5 and are getting a complaint that the tones that play when there is no music on hold that let callers know they are still on hold are a problem when there is a conference call and someone puts their phone on hold.
I am trying to create a silent wav file to upload to call manager. Has anyone here on the forums done this before? Any chance you have a copy of the silent wav file you use? Not sure how long the file has to be and so far I can't seem to cut out all of the noise when I try to make the file with my laptop.
Please let me know.
Thank you.
Rgds,
Vicky

Hey Vicky,
I would just go ahead and use this setting
Service Parameters of CUCM
Suppress MOH to Conference Bridge : This parameter determines whether music on hold (MOH) plays to a conference when a conference participant places the conference on hold. Valid values specify True (the system does not play MOH to the conference when a conference participant presses the Hold button) or False (the system plays MOH to the conference when a conference participant presses the Hold button).
This is a required field.
Default: true.
Cheers!
Rob

Hi Rob,
I just checked on this and the parameter is currently set to true already.

You can change the moh timer service parameter to 200000 so that it never plays.

To add to my previous post, the MOH suppression parameter only suppresses the MOH for conference calls controlled by CUCM For external conferences, i.e. WebEx, etc you have no control over that, and if the trunk/GW the call was initiated to is configured to use MRGL and caller placing the call on hold has MOH source defined it will play.
So, 2 ways to elimite MOH completely:
1. use silent MOH as you said
2. define the "Tone On Hold Timer" service parameter to be 200000.

Hi Chris,
I think that 2nd way of fixing it did the trick. I tested with my ip communicator and didn't hear the beeps. Will verify tomorrow.
Thank you again!

I think you may find that often is external users, not your users, that place their conference call on hold.
On that situation, nothing can be done excep dropping the party from the call, and that is possible only with certain sophisticated conference services.
