Hi,
I have recently set up SIP trunk for a client. it had worked fine until about two days later since it was registered. The SIP trunk went down and never tried to re-register. in the peirod of time, there was no call activity. I had to reboot the router to bring the trunk back up.
anyone knows if there is a timer setting, which could stop the trunk registering with SIP provider after inactivity.
Many thanks.

Please explain the infrastrucutre more e.g. what are the devices use, how are they connected, what is the version used in the devices.
Generally speaking, SIP Trunks don't register anyware. They are triggered when destenation number is matched.

Thanks for the reply.
To clarify the situation, we have cisco cube router for the sip trunk working with CUCM 8.6. it is registered with the telco. everything worked fine. but it goes down or unregisteres itself about every two days.
show sip-ua register status shows the service is down. everytime when i reboot the router, it registers again for next two day.

looks like it is not due to inactivity. even i make call periodically, say 4-5 hours, it disconnects and never re-establish sip connection with the telco.
any suggestion would be highly appreciated.

Hi
debug ccsip messages
debug ccsip errors
debug ccsip events
Did you call your provider to monitor the sip trunk?
Did you check if you hit a bug with the current ios software?
Did you try to upgrade the ios ?

Hi
Have you had any luck with this issue, judging by your config I think we are using the same provider. I have this same problem with a new SIP trunk.
I have logged a fault with the provider and I have raised a TAC case as well.

Hi
I have had some progress with this issue, After debugging the issue I found that the issue is caused be a DNS failure (see debug below).
Running a "clear ip host *" resolves the issue without a reload.
I have tried increasing the number of DNS queries to 5 instead of 2 using the commaind "ip domain retry 5", I'll let you know if this solves the issue.

Hi,
Unfortunatly no, it appears we have hit an IOS bug.
The solution is to downgrade to 15.2.1T2 IOS, unfortunatly I am unable to do this as it will break SIP SRST due to a lack of the command "connection-reuse via-port" under SIP-UA.
The work around I devised was to install a static host entry for the SIP proxy in the running config. I did find that the static entry wouldn't take unless I cleared the dynamic entries first.
