Cisco Bug: CSCuv59697 - SIP Message "Trying to parse unsupported attribute at media level"

Hi, I have a strange error on C2921 router configured as SIP to SIP CUBE, SRST, ConfBridge and transcoder. On console there is constantly showing this message:

SIP: Trying to parse unsupported attribute at media level

So I started with debug sip errors, events, info, and then have some detailed debugs...but when I enable debug sip calls...router gets unavailable and calls are not working so I have to recycle power to bring it up again.

The error code you are getting is 483 i.e. to many hops and its related to the Max-Forwards header in sip messages.

We need to look at sip messaging , please collect "debug ccsip message" for a call and send it across.

Is there a command to edit the Max-Forwards header, is this done on the CUBE router or on the CUCM that CUBE router is registered to?

There is no specific command which will modify max-forward header. If you want to do this on CUBE use SIP Profiles or if you want to do it on CUCM then use Normalization Scripts.

Hi everyone,

The message is only informational, no harmless but is really annoying not be able to turn off. It just saying some CODECs or Features negociated are not supported at the far end.

Description (partial)

Symptom:
The error message "SIP: Trying to parse unsupported attribute at media level" was added to IOS in order to inform there are some unknown/unsupported media attributes (a=<attribute>, a=<attribute>:<value>) on the SDP. 

There's no way to turn this message off. The output is not tied to any debug or syslog server event. However, the message is harmless and intended to be informational.

Conditions:
SIP process finds an unsupported media attribute within the SDP (a=<attribute>, a=<attribute>:<value>)
