Unity Connection 8.5.1SU1 adding a subscriber fails

Jason Aarons

Can’t seem to bring up a Cisco Unity Connection 8.5.1SU1 secondary server (Subscriber). The CU Publisher is working fine and has mailboxes, etc.

Post install of the secondary server I got “The installation of Cisco Unity Connection has completed successfully. Cisco Unity Connection 8.5.1.11900-21”

Using CCMSerivce on Unity Connection Publisher I select the IP address of the Unity Connection Subscriber reports “Connection to the Server cannot be established (Unknown Error)”

First go around TAC had me rebuild the CU Subscriber because they couldn’t view any install log files after 24 hours. However rebuilding Subscriber didn’t fix the problem.

Hi Jason,

What does this command return?

show cuc cluster status

Cheers!

Rob

It would appear I might be hitting http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/search/getBugDetails.do?method=fetchBugDetails&bugId=CSCtn61453

On new subscriber;

admin:show cuc cluster status

com.informix.asf.IfxASFException: Attempt to connect to database server (ciscounity) failed.

Command failed

Applying 8.5.1 software as patch results in corrupted CUC installation.

Symptom:

After fresh installation of 8.5.1 software, we can notice several problem symptoms.

- Connection services and Connection DB does not start

- System cannot be accessed via web page

- Informix error messages for certain CLI commands

Example :- show cuc cluster status

com.informix.asf.IfxASFException: Attempt to connect to database server (ciscounity) failed.

Command failed

Conditions:

It is observed during fresh installation of Unity Connection product when installation was

started with earlier version of software and 8.5.1 software was applied as a patch during the setup process.

Workaround:

First, perform a fresh installation of earlier version of software using the install media. Then after verifying the installation, proceed with the upgrade to 8.5.1 as a separate process.

Jason,

I'm not familiar with that bug, however, I'm wondering if it might be something else.

I have noticed in the most recent builds that DNS becomes more and more of an issue, especially if it's not set up correctly.  Are you using DNS?  If so, do you have both forward AND REVERSE DNS properly configured?  When you test the DNS servers using the NSLOOKUP utility do you get successful forward and reverse DNS resolution using on the DNS servers U/C is pointing to?

If you're not using DNS, are the two servers in the same VLAN?

Maybe.  Based on your original post, I was under the impression that the secondary server is a brand new installation.  That bug applies to upgrades.

Which case apples to you?  And it sounds like either way, you need help from TAC.

Cliff

The secondary was a new install to make Unity Connection a cluster, once I used the bootable 8.5.1SU1 I had no problems.

Hi,

I believe I have hit the same bug.

The primary UC has been installed and upgraded to SU1. When we powered on the secondary server, it asked for an upgrade before integration, since the it is in different version of primary. So I upgraded and installation completed successfully. Then I cannot access it from GUI, and on the primary server, I can see database communication error when contacting secondary UC.

How could we reinstall the original UC with disk on the secondary UC, since it has to be on the same version of the primary? Otherwise, it cannot proceed. The upgrade UC is not bootable.

Thanks,

Soup

Hi Soup,

Have you opened a TAC case? They should be able to set up a special download of

a bootable .iso for 8.5(1)su1 for you.

If not, can you please tell us what base 8.x DVD's you do have?

Cheers!

Rob

Thanks, Rob,

I have opened a TAC case with no response yet.

The base version is 8.5.1.10000. And we have upgraded to 8.5.1.11900-21.

Soup

Hi Soup,

If you can't wait for TAC you may want to go ahead and install 8.5.1.10000 on the Sub

and them move forward with 8.5.1.11900-21. This Installation caveat should come into play here;

***Both servers in the cluster must run the same release of Cisco Unity Connection. The only exception is during a cluster software upgrade, during which a temporary mismatch is allowed.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/8x/installation/guide/8xcucig020.html

Cheers!

Rob

Hi, Rob,

I have got the bootable image and am installing now.

However, I just want to follow up with your solution. When I install the subscriber, it firstly verify the publisher version. If there is a mismatch, it does not allow you to proceed any more. So basically you cannot install the original version on the subscriber.

Thanks,

Soup

The fix requires having the latest bootable 8.5.1SU1 contact Cisco TAC or your Cisco Account Manager.

Here is another bug related the futher enforces having the latest bootable image;

Applying 8.5.1 software as patch results in corrupted CUC installation.

Symptom:

After fresh installation of 8.5.1 software, we can notice several problem symptoms.

- Connection services and Connection DB does not start

Hey Soup,

Thanks for posting back with your results (+5). I'm glad you

were able to get the proper "build" .iso file.

Jason....thanks to you as well for your kind follow up (+5)

Cheers!
