We've just dusted down a couple of 7961s that were lying unopened in a store room.
Plugged them in, and powered them up. At first they tried to firmware update (but failed 'cause their firmware was so old, so we need to go via 8.5.2)
Manually specified this in the Phone Load line in CCMADMIN, power-cycled phone and now I have bricks.
If I do a Wireshark, I can see the phone getting an IP address, and requesting (and getting) term61.default.loads from the TFTP server, but then, it just stops.
I've tried changing the Device Default firmware in CUCM and restarting the TFTP Service, but this hasn't changed the contents of the term61.defaults.loads file which is being sent via TFTP. (It mentions 9.1.1)
Any suggestions as to how to resurrect these phones ?

Download the 8.5.2 software again, you can use the zip file if you want. Make sure term61.default.loads is the right one, then try again.
If doing with the CM fails, bring the phones to another LAN where you have a PC with tftpd32 installed, option 150 set, and all the needed files.

I switched to use a manual DHCP & TFTP Server, and the phones came back to life fine.
Thanks,
