Hi
We are going to upgrade the ESXi version 4.x to 5.x.we are running already 4 applications into the ESxi 4
CUCM , CUC.CUPS ,CCX
My questions is how can we upgrade the ESxi form 4 to 5 and also how this upgrade will affect the current applications which are based of ESXi 4
What are the neccesary steps that we have to do
Any official doc will be apreciated

There is nothing unique to UCS servers as far as upgrading ESXi is concerned, simply follow standard VMWare upgrade documentation. As to upgrading Cisco apps, you may or may not have to do this, check out this link for supported versions on ESXi 4.1 vs 5:
http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Unified_Communications_VMware_Requirements
If you need to upgrade any of the UC apps, just follow Cisco upgrade guide for that app.

Hi Chris
Just to understand
i am running version 8.5.x for all the applications based of esxi version 4
You mean that i CAN upgrade ESXi version 4 to 5.x and the current vms will not be affected .
Its not matter for the applications if it was on base 4 Esxi and now we will have Esxi version 5. Right?

You did not list your applications, but most of them on version 8.5 are absolutely supported with ESXi 5.0 so you would not need to upgrade the apps to be able to upgrade ESXi.

Hi Chris
I have mentioned that i am running CUCM , CUC,CUPS, CCX all 8.5.x ..
My question is if need it a vm upgrade because we are moving to esxi 5.This is teh question.NOT update the cucm for example for 8.5 to 9 BUT the vm actually if is need it an an upgrade .Because when you instert the ova file you have to choices.OVA for esxi 4 and ova for esxi 5.
So i have used the ova for esxi 4.Now that we are going to move to esxi 5 we have to do anything for the vms?

CUCM, CUC and CCX 8.5 are compatible with ESXi 5.0 (notice difference between 5.0 and 5.1). CUPS needs to be version 8.6, so that will need to be upgraded.

Like Chris is mentiniong, make sure that all your VMs are running on a version that would be compatible with ESXi 5 (VM Hardware 8).
In regards to upgrading ESXi 4 to 5. You can upgrade the VM Hardware from version 7 to 8 and if you're using local storage you can upgrade the datastore from VMFS4 to VMFS5. This will bring all your VMs and datastores to ESXi 5. Please let me know if you need assistance upgrading the VM Hardware.
