User/Line association in CUCM

Why would you need to set the "Users Associated with Line" part of a line appearance? I thought it might be to do with Jabber/Presence, but that's working fine without this field being populated.

It does have to do with Presence status of publishing the state of desk phone.

Adding clarity to Chris' response: this triggers the "On the phone" status in Jabber. CUCM pushes the status across the CUPS PUBLISH Trunk based on this. This field has no impact on licensing.

Hi Jonathan,

I have users added in cucm now i want to add lines to them for jabber. There are IPPhones already configured with line and i want to add those line to users now. I have followed the same guide but it gives me error that "devicenumplan" doesn't exist. So what i understood is this step only updates the line appearance for existing lines and doesn't add the new lines isn't it.
