Voice resources for 2911 using NM-HDV2-2T1/E1

Can someone tell me if the following setup will work? Current setup:

2911 Router

(2) VWIC2-2MFT-T1/E1 cards supporting 4 T1’s for data. Cards exist in EHWIC slots 0 and 1

0/0/0 and 0/0/1

0/1/0 and 0/1/1

(1) PVDM3 DSP 16

I am implementing voice so I need to configure the router to support (1) PRI (2) FXS cards (1) FXO card. Here is my plan to do so using equipment I already have on hand. I can think of better ways to implement voice but am trying to do so without having to purchase additional equipment.

  • •- Add a NM-HDV2-2T1/E1 to the Service Mod slot 1
  • •- Configure a port on the NM for the PRI
  • •- Add a VIC2 4 port FXO card to the NM to support 1 analog line (911 service)
  • •- Add (2) VIC2 4 port FXS cards to slot 2 and 3 to support faxing and paging.
  • •- Add PVDM3-64 to the existing PVDM3-16
  • •- Configure voice-card X (so NM can share MB DSP resources_

Does anyone see any possible issues with this?

Thanks!

Hi,

This is addressed in the following document,

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps3115/qa_c67_553073_ps10537_Products_Q_and_A_Item.html

Q. Are the PVDM3 modules supported in a NM-HDV2?

#

A. No. You cannot install PVDM3 modules directly on the PVDM slots of an NM-HDV2, only the PVDM2s are supported by the NM-HDV2. However, an NM-HDV2 that has no PVDMs installed at all can share PVDM3 DSP resources from the router motherboard PVDM slots across the chassis backplane.

Please note that you will need to add the "network-clock-participate slot x" command for the SM slot before DSP resources will be shared from the motherboard to the NM.

Also here is the output of the DSP calculator showing that You can use the DSP onboard (slot 0) for the NMs

Router: 2911
IOS: 15.0(1)M
DSP Modules Required:
PVDM3-64: 1
PVDM2-8: 1

DSP Module Allocation:
Router Slot 0:60 Voice (94%) 4 Available (6%)
PVDM Slot 0/0: PVDM3-64

Router Slot 1:4 Voice (50%) 4 Available (50%)
PVDM Slot 1/0: PVDM2-8

Router Slot 2:

Router Slot 3:

Router Slot 4:

Call Volume Allocation:
LowMedHigh

Router Slot 1: NM-HDV2-2T1/E1(E1) 60
Slot 1/0: VIC2-4FXO(FXO) 4

Yes, they do support PRIs

You should be good to go..

Each E1 Pri configured with 30 channels will use 30 channels of your DSP. Hence two of them will use 60 channels. The PVDM3-64 will take care of this..

Each FXO port will use 1 channel, hence with 4 ports you need 4 more DSP channel which you have from the remaining 4 channels.

You then have 16 channel spare DSP which you can use for conferencing and transcoding

2 questions that I just thought of.  Does the NM-HDV2-2T1/E1 support a PRI connection?  (VWIC)

DSP - I was planning on installing the 16 and 64 DSP modules on the MB, not the NM.  I am being told that I need DSP on the NM for it to work.

I am being told that I need DSP on the NM for it to work.

This is incorrect.

NM-HDV / NM-HDV2 type of modules allow dsp pooling. These DSPs can be shared among multiple IP Communications High-Density Digital Voice/Fax Network Modules that are installed in an Integrated Services Router. DSPs on the motherboard on the Cisco 2811, 2821, 2851, 2911, 2921, 2951, 3825, 3845, 3925, and 3945 Integrated Services Routers can also be used with the NM-HDV2 network modules.

PVDM2s on a NM-HDV2 module or on the mother board of an ISR router can be shared across multiple IP Communications High-Density Digital Voice/Fax Network Modules.

Take a look at the following doc:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps259/product_data_sheet09186a00800921e7_ps2797_Products_Data_Sheet.html

Why do you want to put a VWIC card on to an NM module. It already comes preloaded with its E1/T1 cards

Hi,

May be have a read at this link

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps259/product_data_sheet09186a00800921e7_ps5365_Products_Data_Sheet.html

1) Yes E1 is supported

2) Depends whether you are using PVDM2 or 3s

See the link

I was unsure if the T1/E1 would support a PRI.  and  I was planning on PVDM3's no 2's.

Great information and thank you for clearing up "my" confusion.  This provides a solid path to what I want to achieve.
