What is the different between ATM rfc1843 routed mode and bridge mode

This is what i see for the configuration, some one could explain to me why is it need to configure like this?

RFC1843 routed mode  need to have configuration ATM protocol ip xx.xx.xx.xx

RFC1843 bridge mode need to map a layer 3 IP to the ATM interface

Birdge mode carry MAC address in frame while routed mode does not.

From that different configurations.

Any reason why we choose routed mode or bridge mode?

found this but not really sure what mean by routing allows multiplexing of multiple protocols over a single ATM VC but Bridging perform higher layer protocol multiplexing ?

anyone can brieft me about this?

RFC1483 describes two different methods for carrying connectionless network interconnect traffic over an ATM network: Routed protocol data units (PDUs) and Bridged PDUs.

  • Routing allows multiplexing of multiple protocols over a single ATM virtual circuit (VC). The protocol of a carried PDU is identified by prefixing the PDU with an IEEE 802.2 Logical Link Control (LLC) header.
  • Bridging performs higher-layer protocol multiplexing implicitly by ATM virtual circuits. For more information, refer to RFC1483.
