I can set this variable but it disappears after a switch reset. Within the MIB variable definition it states "If write access is implemented for an instance of
entPhysicalAssetID, and a value is written into the
instance, the agent must retain the supplied value in the
entPhysicalAssetID instance associated with the same
physical entity for as long as that entity remains
instantiated. This includes instantiations across all re-
initializations/reboots of the network management system,
including those which result in a change of the physical
entity's entPhysicalIndex value." Should a switch reset be included in the list of OK network management re-initializations?

no, the value of entPhysicalAssetID is not retained after the switch reset. Instantiations across all reinitialization/reboots of the agents are only included.
