Inconsistent Update of Topology in LMS 3.2

We are currently doing alerts simulation. I am accessing LMS 3.2 on my laptop using IE 8, java version is 1.6.0_19. Our client is also accessing LMS 3.2 on their workstation using IE 6, java version is 1.6.0_11.

We are physically disconnected link in switch ILIGAN-AN-MIN-R07 at 2:16am. Once we disconnected the link, the alert was seen in the DFM alerts and activities page. Interface alert is seen for ILIGAN-AN-MIN-R07 .

Looking at the Topology using my laptop, the topology updated a minute after the alert was detected in DFM. As you can see, a DFM alert critical icon was seen by 2:17 am:

But looking at the topology on our client's workstation, the topology DID NOT update. We tried closing the topology first and then re-launched it again but nothing happened. We tried performing data collection, and then closed the topology and relaunched it again. That was the only time the DFM critical alert icon appeared on top of the devices. In my laptop, the topology updated AUTOMATICALLY and IMMEDIATELY (1 minute only after DFM detected the interface alert), but in my client's workstation, I had to manually close and relaunch the topology and then perform data collection manually.

We reconnected the link of ILIGAN-AN-MIN-R07. The interface alert was cleared at 2:35 am as seen in DFM's Alert and Activities page

Looking at the Topology using my laptop, the topology updated a minute after the alert was detected in DFM. The DFM critical icon disappeared at 2:36am

But when looking at the topology at our customer's workstation, the topology did not update on itself. Again I had to close the topology, perform data collection manually, and then relaunch the topology to be able to update it. After doing this, the critical icon disappeared.

I was wondering what was causing this scenario? Is it because of the IE version or the java version? Because that's the only thing that are different between my laptop and the workstation of our customer.

  • Data Collection schedule is in default value(every 4 hours starting 12am).
  • DFM polling is enabled, interval is in default (6 mins.)
  • Device poller for all devices is enabled and is set to 1 hr 30 mins.
  • Device poller for critical devices is set to 10 mins. but this option is not selected, and no devices are added to critical devices

I hope you can help me with this.

Thanks,

Katarina

Try clearing the java cache from the client workstation and see if the problem persists. If so, update the jre plugin to same version you have and let us know the results.

Clearing java cache:

Hi Nael,

I have already cleared the java cache, and installed the same java. But I still encountered the same scenario. Topology does not update automatically

Hi everyone, appreciate your assistance on this scenario.

Thanks,

Katarina

Can you manually start the data collection and let me know if it updates?

It updates only after manually performing data collection.
