Hi all.
I need help about ATA 188
We are testing VoIP with two ATA188 devices.
Each device is connected at customer side into internal network but at another country.
So communication is going from ATA in one country
to ATA in another country. All comunication is going
through IPsec tunnel.
My questions are : Is it possible connect two ATA devices through IPsec?
Is it necessary use voice gateway with devices, for example router which understand H.323 protocol?
Which ports shold I permit on access-list?
I mean both, tcp and udp and source and destination.
Now both ATA are running IOS H.323 and it is possible ping each other.
every advice will be deeply appreciated
thanks

Have you tried GRE instead of IPSec. Guess that would work.

I don't know about IPsec, but with tunnel GRE it works

It doesn't matter what type of tunnel is in use - as long as your IP addresses are fully routable and not natted from end to end you shouldn't have problems. The ATAs won't be aware of the tunnel, and no devices in between need to be voice-aware as such (although they should be providing proper QoS to ensure quality).
ATAs will use ports 16384-32767 UDP for actual media streams.
They'll also probably use the following for H323 signalling:
TCP 1720 (H225)
TCP 11000-11999 (H245)
There may be more but this should get you started...

Thanks for advice guys,
ports are very important for us because
over there is huge amount of access-lists
which permit only some traffic.
Is there some tool to troubleshoot defined
ports.? I tried to use tool prserv.exe but this
is only related to calling number, codec used
and I can see only ports H.245 1720, 1740 and
RTP 16384. But question is which ports permit only?
Now it works because we permited all.
