Catalyst 3560 port err-disabled after phone load upgrade

After upgrading the phone loads for 7940/7960 phones to P00307000200, I received a call that a particular 7940 was stuck at Configuring IP. I unplugged the phone, plugged it back in and it was dead. I plugged this phone into a different port and it came up fine. When I checked the switch, the port the phone was originally plugged into had a status of err-disabled. I shutdown and enabled the port and everything seems to be fine. Is this related to the software uprade? Could it have been avoided?

I've seen this kind of problem before, though it isn't always related to the phone load. The err-disabled typically happens when the switch detects a power problem with the POE. Shut/no shut is all it takes to fix it, as you've seen. I think sometimes the quick restart of the phone after a new load is installed can cause that.
