Hi,
I have a 2691 router with a NM-HD-2V, an ATM-AIM and BRI voice cards.
I can make G.711 calls but not G.729 because the DSPs are in AdminState Down.
router_toip#sh dspfarm
DSPFARM Configuration Information:
Admin State: DOWN, Oper Status: DOWN - Cause code: ADMIN_STATE_DOWN
Transcoding Sessions: 0(Avail: 0), Conferencing Sessions: 0 (Avail: 0)
Trans sessions for mixed-mode conf: 0 (Avail: 0), RTP Timeout: 600
Connection check interval 600 Codec G729 VAD: ENABLED
I am running IOS 12.2(15)ZJ5 and I can type the commands:
voice-card 2
dspfarm
But then, the followind command "dsp services dspfarm" is not supported!
I am attaching show diag sumarized:

Sorry, to be more clear - it was not this exact issue or config, someone had bought a voice bundle, which came with the AIM module, but had installed an NM-HDV with a WIC-1DSU-T1, and were using that for their voice T1, so we were hoping to be able to use the extra DSP resources for conf/xcode, but could not enter the 'dsp services dspfarm', and were finally told the dsps on the AIM module were there to support digital voice ports, like the MFT-T1, in order to free up a slot, and were not really available for general resources. It would be nice if they could be more flexible, anything in the future?

Have you tried doing a no shut on the voice-card? If that doesn't work I would do a shut on the voice ports created and delete the voice configs. Then under the command dsp services dspfarm you can enter the command codec complexity high this will allow higher compression codecs such as g.723, the default is codec complexity medium which does g.711 and such.

Hi Jason,
Thanks for your answer.
As far as I know there is no way to shut/no shut a voice-card or a voice-port.
I've tried the "codec complexity" command with no success.
I thinks my main problem is that for some reason I cannot issue the command "dsp servcies dspfarm", i.e., the router doesn't recognize this command under the voice-cards.
Then, when I issue in global-config mode the command "dspfarm" I receive this:
router_toip(config)#dspfarm
No dsp resources available or allocated; check dsp availability
and allocate voice card(s) for dspfarm

Jesus

I actually think that it is your IOS version, the biggest reason is becuase it is in DF. I would get an update that has the enterprise or the h323 feature set. After that I think it will work.

It's an older release which is in DF. Anyway, I tried to upgrade to 12.3.8T and problem still persists.
When I type in global config mode "dspfarm" I receive this message:
router_toip(config)#dspfarm
No dsp resources available or allocated; check dsp availability and allocate voice card(s) for dspfarm

Jesus,
From config mode enter the command dspfarm.
router(config)#dspfarm
This will get you to active state.

Everytime I have seen this error it has been a configuration issue. You may want to review thei URL to confirm your configuraiton. The config you uploaded has expired so I can't take a look.
You may be using up all the DSP's with your voice ports. The above doc should help you determine this.

We ran into this issue last September, and were told by our Cisco SE, after some delay (suspect for researching the issue internally) that the AIM module dsp resources are only available to serve voice ports, NOT as conferencing and transcoding resources. It would be nice if they were!
