I would like to find out if anyone knows how to get the system not to answer a call on a shared line if the handset is lifted. But to only take the first line offhook.

When there is a shared line, and the shared line rings,I need the secrataries to be able to pickup the handset to make a call from their primary line without answering the shared line.?
DO you know if this is possible?

You can do this if you put the shared line on line 2 of the phone and set the Always Use Prime Line service parameter to True. Then, when going off-hook the phone will always use the 1st line even if a call is ringing on the 2nd line.

Hi,
You could also instruct the secretaries to hit the line button of the non-shared line before lifting the handset.
