what protocol are the ipphone and gw are working in SRST mode???

Does anyone found any docs about the protocol working between the ipphone and the gateway while trying to setup a call in SRST mode???

Hi Kito,

There probably won't be much documentation available here because the protocol used is a Cisco proprietary protocol - Skinny. ITS uses the same protocol as well.

Some gateways used to be skinny controlled in early CM releases dt24 de 30+ and catalyst blades DPA uses skinny.

MGCP (ietf) and H.323 (itu-t)are common reliable "open standards" offering different functions both are used in CM enviroments.

Why is dot1q gaining favour over ISL is TCP/IP the way to network ?

The protocol used between the router in SRST mode is Skinny Client Control Protocol (SCCP). Remember that this is the only protocol that the Cisco IP Phones run. The router uses H.323 in regular VoIP but in SRST mode it is communicating to the phones. You need an IOS feature set on the router that supports SRST (and thus SCCP to the phones).
