I have a problem bringing up ppp multilink. The IOS versions are:
flash:c1600-sy-l.120-26.bin at the remote end
flash:c3640-ds-mz.121-15.bin at the main site.
This is the config for the head site
interface Dialer8
description ** Link to Sydney Town Hall sydneyth_r **
bandwidth 128
ip address 172.21.194.62 255.255.255.252

dialer remote-name sydneyth_r
dialer idle-timeout 604800

Under interface BRI0 you need to add the command "ppp multilink" just like you did with the Dialer interface. Good luck.

I did put the ppp multilink under the interface and reset the router but still no go. We even go to the extend of upgrading a brand new router.

With multilink I think either end can decide its time to add a link. It looks like the host end is trying to add the link but has no dialer string.
I dont see any threshold settings. Try setting them so the remote will add the link, not the host.

You may want to add something like this to the dialer interface to define when you want the second bearer to come up. The 1 indicates loading from 0-255 and you can then specify in, out or either for the traffic direction.
dialer load-threshold 1 either
also
ppp timeout multilink link add 1
may be useful.

I see your mixing dialer maps with dialer profiles. Maybe this is the problem. Try creating a dialer map at the head site (you can miss off the number if you never want that end to initiate the call).
Have a look at http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/129/config-bri-map.html

I agree with the very last post for your problem. That is to say at the head office you're using dialer profile and at the branch you're using dialer map. Try having the config consistent. Try the follwing config on your router and see what happen. This config is actually on my exisint routers and they work (of course I've taken out a few irrelevant configs)
At the branch site (which is doing the dialing)
interface BRI0/0
no ip address
encapsulation ppp
dialer pool-member 1
isdn switch-type basic-net3
ppp authentication chap
ppp multilink
!
interface Dialer1
ip address 192.168.180.33 255.255.255.248
encapsulation ppp
dialer pool 1
dialer remote-name head-office
dialer idle-timeout 300
dialer string 12345678
dialer load-threshold 1 either
dialer-group 1
ppp authentication chap
ppp multilink
******************************
At the head office end (which is the recieving end)
interface BRI0/0
no ip address
encapsulation ppp
dialer pool-member 1
isdn switch-type basic-net3
ppp authentication chap
ppp multilink
!
interface Dialer1
ip address 192.168.180.42 255.255.255.248
encapsulation ppp
dialer pool 1
dialer remote-name branch-office
dialer idle-timeout 2147483
dialer-group 1
ppp authentication chap callin
ppp multilink
!
Try keeping your config as basic as possible. When you have it working on 128Kbps then you can try adding other config in. Good luck and let me know how you go.

Thanks for the help guys. Making both ends consistent resolved the problem.
Cheers
