RV320 Firmware Update 1.1.1.06 Crashed Unit

Our internet connectivity was intermittant all morning today so we decided to upgrade our Cisco RV320 firmware from 1.02.03 to 1.1.1.06. We downloaded the release from the Cisco Download Software onto a USB thumb drive. Using the Configuration software, and reading the RV320 User Guide, we followed the directions on Page 64 of the User Guide under Firmware Upgrade: System Management > Firmware Upgrade > Firmware Upgrade from USB, and selected the file.

After clicking Update Firmware, the red light next to DIAG on the RV320's front panel stayed solid red for 20 minutes. The green light next to PWR stayed flashing for the entire 20 minutes. The router never stopped booting and will no longer boot up. We switched off the power after 20 minutes and decided that was long enough for our business to be without the internet.

Can someone tell me why this happened? I switched the RV320 back on and and the red light next to DIAG is still a solid red and the green light is still flashing next PWR. Please advise me as to how I should get my money back or what I can do make it work again.

Hi Carrie, it looks not a hardware failure, just firmware corrupt due to file transmission or unknown reasons. You can follow below step to recover it.

1.power off

2.power on with pressing the reset button, wait for 10s, untill the diag LED turn red, and power LED keep flashing.

3.set lan pc to 192.168.1.100

4.use  tftp client to put the firmware to device. Windows command for example:  tftp -i 192.168.1.1 put RV32X_v1.1.1.06_20131206-code.bin. Or using  other tftp client like "http://tftpd32.jounin.net/"

5.after tftp finish, the device will reboot by itself.

6.after startup, power led is on, diag led is off.

I saw the previous Discussion saying to telnet into the Router and use TFTP and the "put" command to load the file. We did not enable TFTP on the now bricked router. Our attempts to TFTP into the router get a "cannot connect" error message.

Today, March 6, 2014, I went to download the latest firmware for the RV320 because a Cisco Small Business Support phone specialist told me the image file was updated.

RV32X_FW_v1.1.1.06.bin is the exact same file that bricked my router in January 2014. Can someone please respond to my post with a date when the new firmware file will be available? I am not taking a chance on installing the same firmware file that bricked a brand-new never used RV320.

Thank you for your quick reply and step-by-step instructions. We have about 12 RV320's installed at client locations (we are an IT Solutions Provider) - was there a bad production batch of RV320's with faulty hardware? If so, do you know the affected serial numbers so I can check our currently installed routers?

Hello Carrie,

We have seen this happen when the firmware file downloaded was corrupt. There was no indication that it was due to hardware issues.

Nagaraja

We performed the firware update successfully today. Thank you for your reply and step-by-step instructions.

I followed you instruction but got "timeout" or "connection failure" at step 4.

any help are appreciated.

I have got the same problem after upgrading router didn't reboot correctly.

Power led blink, and diag red fixed.

Reset don't change anything

I try to put firmware with tftp in ubuntu, it puts all the data but don't reboot. nothings change

I try with Windows 8.1 with TPTPUtilClient GUI

after sending pur request...

I get Timeout for read request of file RV..... connection 192.168.1.1:69

What to do now ?

only pings 192.168.1.1 is OK

after many tries, I finally use a linux (ubuntu) PC and put a older firmware

here are the commands

tftp 192.168.1.1 <enter>

binary <enter>

put RW.......bin <enter>

then wait  2 or 3 minutes

bin file must be of course in current folder

Red led finally stops and router interface again in https://192.168.1.1

then try to upgrade again latest firmware successsfully

Hi, I have the same problem with the tftp command timing out. I just bought the router new and initially, I could log in and configure it. I then attempted to upgrade to the latest firmware using the file RV32X_FW_v1.1.1.19.bin. I then got the flashing PWR and solid DIAG problem.

I attempted to follow the tftp instructions, but I get the timeout error. I also notice that after restarting the router, I can ping 192.168.1.1 for a couple of minutes, then after that the destination is no longer reachable.

How can I fix this? This is now urgent.
