2911 ISR is in booting loop after extra memory removed

blasemarzo

Level 1

Hi,

I practiced to use the embedded service engine on a C2911 ISR router. The router originally has 512MB memory, I borrowed a 2GB module from an another device. As the memory was needed in the original device I removed it and forgot it for a while.

Now I should be able to use this device for another purpose and when I turn it on it started to boot and stucked in booting, constantly rebooting, missing the extra memory. I expected it will boot normally and initiate the memory it has.

Can someone advise me how to restore this device to normal state?

Thanks for your help.

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

There is no memory in the slot, as I removed the extra ram from the slot, just the basic 512 MB on the board.

That is the original state of the router.

Hello @blasemarzo ,

it seems to me that the router is complaining about the DIMM you introduced in the UDIMM slot - I read 256M (268435456) instead of 2G.

The 2911 accept UDIMM sizes of 512MB, 1GB, 2 GB.

Can you check the inserted UDIMM and either replace it with one of the supported size or remove it from the router. The router has 512 MB on the motherboard and all IOS images I see available for download form Cisco require a minimum of 512 MB.

Your router should boot ok without the additional DIMM. Depending on the configuration of the router, it could need additional RAM, but to just test the booting process it should be ok.

Regards, LG

Hi,

The board has 512MB and removed the extra 2GB ram module from the slot. I supposed it should load without it, but seems not to do it anymore
